We’re super excited to start stocking the latest DISFUNKSHION mag on our online shop!! We chatted to Disfunkshion creator for a little peek inside the mag:

We’ve been having a love affair with the online side of Disfunkshion for a while now – something as passionate and real as this doesn’t happen by accident – who’s love child is it?
It’s my lovechild! hehe! I wanted to merge women’s issues, social issues, fashion, art, surf and bohemian culture into one platform and that’s how DISfunkshion was born.

One of the reasons we love the mag is it’s ‘manifesto’ among other things, is to offer tips on ways to get involved in the community and make a difference… what’s your top tip?
My biggest thing would be to encourage all women to leave this earth a bit more beautiful than they found it. There are too many people hurting out in the world, and it’s our human privilege to lend a hand to those in need. Whether it be the hungry, the abused, the marginalized or the sad souls hidden in the glitz and glamour.

There’s a real ‘boho’ undertone to the mag, where does this come from?
It comes from everything that inspires me. A part of me feels like I was born in the wrong era. I should have been a young adult in the 60′s and 70′s. haha! I also love the free-spirit element of the bohemian lifestyle that is liberating, dreamy, inspiring and spiritually nurturing.

What are you all obsessing on right now?
I tend to be pretty detached from most things but one of the things I catch myself most attracted to these days are turquoise jewelry pieces, flared stretchy pants, incense and good self-help books.

Describe your ultimate photo shoot.
My ultimate photo shoot is one where I have all kinds of Native American jewelry pieces (which is usually pretty pricey), face paint, ethnic prints from all over the world, and a compilation of essentials from the closets of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Steven Tyler and Lenny Kravitz.

What’s the intention behind Disfunkshion?
To exhort, empower and encourage women to love themselves and to truly appreciate the beauties that they truly are. In a beauty, weight and success obsessed culture, we are the counter media movement magazine. We don’t want to tell women how they SHOULD look or be, but enourage each woman to walk her own journey in a positive and beneficial light! We also like to talk about meaty topics related real life issues, thus creating a supportive community in which we can all connect, relate and share those things deemed taboo by modern culture.

Johnny forwarded me this shoot today and I had to blog it – pink hair, wooly mammoth furry coats and a big white Artex-don’t-let-the-swamps-of-sadness-get-to-you-horse… what’s not to love!!

Leila Joy Berney, a 20 year old Sydney based freelance photographer, who’s visiting Byron soon and plans to embark on a few creative projects… Can’t wait to see what she brings to life up here!

Am sure it’s the same for a lot of you who have a little tribe, but shopping for the groms is sometimes as much (if not more) fun than shopping for yourself!! We adore local label Children of the Tribe by local designer (and mum) Emma McClean. It’s all animal print and crazy 70s disco-David-Bowie fabrics, printed tees and all the things you wish you’d dressed in when you were knee high.

I know that as a working mum I don’t get much (any!!) time to go shopping for Indi, so jumping online is the only chance I get… so lucky COTT has a website!! Shop it all here.

I’m tired. Like really, kind of still asleep. My bubba is in that beautiful (exhausting) stage where he wants to be stuck to you with glue, even when he’s sleeping. I feel like I’m walking somewhere between dark and light – somewhere between wake and sleep.

When the blacks and the whites, and all the spaces in between come together in unity, we get texture. To all those textual moments that make blogging (and life) fun.

Cleobella look book Spring 2013

Cleobella stock a bunch of our fave pieces at their boutique in Sunset Beach, CA, and was excited to spotted a heap of our fave pieces in their latest lookbook! Love the desert scape wanderer boho vibe;) And I wan’t to take the cammo jacket and carpet bag in the first pic on my next adventure please!!

I love that Cleobella, a gorgeous Californian based accessories label, was named after designer Angela’s mum who was a ‘hippy child’ born in the 70s and lived the beach life in California. We know all about that – our dad, the ultimate 70s hippy, and the leather work he created then, still inspires us every day.

I’m wondering – was this shot at Dark Point on the Mid NSW Coast? Because these sand dunes are epic! Wherever it was shot – I’m loving this shoot, created, styled and shot by Brydie of Wolf Cub blog. I knew Brydie had an eye for the exquisite when I started following her blog way back when – and her posts keep getting more outlandishly perfect. Filled with inspiration from all walks (not just fashion, often referencing art, architecture, film) I was intrigued when she mentioned a while back that she had a few things in the pipe works – well here it is!

Can’t wait to see more from her! Watch this space!

I love that this shoot, with it’s cool blueish hues and long flaired pants and maxi dresses is a Summer look book – reminds me Summer isn’t all about beaches and palm trees. It’s dappled light warm and cool at the same time, dark and kohl’d eyes and milky skin.
