So digging this babe’n 70’s-esque look book by one of our fave Byron Bay labels Amilita. It has the vintage 70s stylings of Sara Afonso and photographer Dave Hauserman written all over it.

And word on the street is that Amilita is opening a boutique just opposite us on Fletcher Street. We couldn’t be more excited to this addition to our little corner of Byron, which has become over the last year or so quite the little must-visit shopping strip! We’ll keep you in the loop on when they open up officially, but in the meantime shop the new collection here.

What is it that’s so undeniably romantic about a lone girl on a desert island, deserted beach or wandering wide desert scapes of some other far off wonderland? I’ve always steered away from shoots with multiple models for that very reason… fashion is such a personal thing, you may have 3 friends but each will have their own individual style… which is why I’ve always explored the notion of the intimate moments alone in our photo shoots. Where all that matters is what you want. The rest of the world falls away.

This mesmerising castaway shoot by our gorgeous online stockist The Freedom State (shot and directed by Byron’s own David Hauserman) is the perfect vehicle for this story to be played out. For isn’t it those moments alone on a beach, writing in your diary, pouring over a magazine, staring into a flickering fire that are truly beautiful, intimate, lasting?

I’m loving the styling in this shoot, it’s so quintessentially Spell, so quintessentially Free People, and ultimately, soooo Freedom State.

Labels featured, Spell Maxi Dress, Spell Crochet dress, Goddess of Babylon Romper, Tigerlily Swim.

I love hearing how people (admittedly, women in particular) begin their entrepreneurial ventures when it flows from their passion. I asked Turquoise Lane founder Suzie Thomas what lead her down the proverbial turquoise lane

‘You asked me how it all began…Well Its always been a dream of mine. A burning desire that has always been with me. I spent most of my younger years surfing, camping and exploring our magical country whenever we could get enough money together to go on another family road trip.  My father raised me from when I was 10 months old along with my 3 year old brother. We had a childhood filled with love, adventure and endless camping trips. I honestly believe this is where my love for travel, turquoise water and adventuring comes from.

I have been fortunate enough to have the belief installed in me from a young age to work hard and chase your dreams. I guess I’ve had the work hard bit down pat but probably haven’t been chasing my own dreams.  I feel like I’d be taking more of a risk not doing Turquoise Lane, than doing it.  I’ve worked really hard to get here and I guess its my courage finally catching up with my passion that has made me take the leap and I’m LOVING it. This is me.  The turquoise lane girl is me in a nutshell.
