It’s a very ‘welcome back’ for the return of tribal! Free People have nailed the trend, think gladiator sandals, striking aztec prints, flowing neutrals, an abundance of fringe & layer upon layer of dirty silver jewels, for their ‘Sand Dancer’ look book. Just in time for the US festival season; I hope to see a whole lota’ you chicks rocking the trend at Coachella, dancing among the sand, the stars, the moon & letting your free spirits flow. It’s the perfect balance between bohemian babe & all class.

When Planet Blue sent us their 2014 Festival Look book a few thoughts ran through my frazzled little head. ‘Where’s my backstage Coachella ticket?!’ was one, hehe… but really I just thought back to my festival heydays.

When what you wore to a festival was as important as the music itself. Not in a ‘poser’ way, but because what you wear to a festival is part of the whole Escaping from Reality experience. I used to wear outfits I’d have NEVER worn out normally… fringe on fringe, turquoise on turquoise, flow on flow… And the best part, you have to give-in and sacrifice every festival outfit to the festival-gods… you know that each outfit may not make it out alive… it may return home covered in mud and sweat and bindies, ripped to shreds, or may get left at some random camp-sight and never heard from again…

I love how much the US embrace festival season. We’re just lucky we get to play along with wonderful Fall and Winter festivals like Blues Fest and Splendour round the corner (and literally on our doorstep here in Byron).

Loving this look book btw! Love the tie dyed silk frills and tribal flourishes… Keep it com’n Planet Blue… We’ll just have to pair it all with a pair of welly’s and one of our Ponchos.

Van De Vort Festival Look Book ‘Road To High Desert’
Van De Vort on Facebook.

Those who know me well, know that the ultimate on my bucket list is a road trip through the US desert. I’m constantly inspired by the landscape, the feeling of freedom, the ‘somehow glamorous’ mix of pretty dresses, denim, vintage tee’s and dusty as hell cowboy boots, has me aching for a getaway to the high desert, beer & good vibes included. With Coachella fast approaching in the US, the desert road trip goes to festival with a whole lotta’ epic outfit inspiration from our LA stockist, Van De Vort.

If you’re not one of the lucky ones heading along to Coachella this year, just grab your girls, some new threads & get exploring!

xx Jaimi

via Bohemian Diesel.

Oh yeahhhh!! Seriously! Free People catalogues just keep getting better and better. Top of our wishlist Erin Wasson in a shotgun wedding mid-roadtrip… doesn’t get much better than that. Then add a gorgeous short film, some killer maxi dresses and some hot, Arizona-born dude and you’ve got me.

Spell Mid-Season Lookbook Feb 2014 ‘Midsummer Storm’.
Photography Graham Dunn
Model Kelley Ash @ Q.
H&M Emily Nickrent
Hats by Gladys Tamez Millinery
Special mention to Fluffy the Cat who Kelley believes stole the show.

I read a line once in Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman that went something like ‘it’s always dark between the worlds’ – and I always think about that whenever I’m between seasons and the weather gets confused and dark and stormy. On the road from one season to the next, or one city to the next, or even one thought to the next,  it can sometimes get dark and stormy. I love the latest collaboration shoot with Graham Dunn & Wild at Heart’s Kelley Ash for that reason – I can feel the seasons clicking.

The exciting thing about running a fashion label to the beat of your own drum, instead of following strict seasonal drop dates, is that you can have ideas mid-season and make them happen. We wanted to see what our Desert Wanderer Playsuit would look like as a dress, and while you’re at it why not make the Wild Horses dress in black?!! Yes! So we did, and here it is.

We were lucky enough to rope blogger/model Kelley Ash and Graham Dunn (who were the duo who brought our Desert Wanderer story to life) in again for this mid-season story… we wanted something that could look like a midsummer storm, or hint at the oncoming Fall… we wanted the moments between the moments.

We hope you love this little mid-season infusion, and all the better to drop it on Valentines Day – a few old faves and a few new textures in there to get you through to when we drop our next collection! Enjoy!
