AUSSIE STYLE CRUSH’N

We’ve chatted to some of our favourite Australian bloggers about what they do to relax in style on Australia Day (here or abroad)!

We’ve loved Helen’s sunset drenched, ocean loving blog forever, and felt very blessed to have her at our Spell Book launch in October this year! We asked her about her Australia day:

What do you usually do on Australia Day?
Every year we host a pool party at our home with out closest friends. We tune into the Triple J Hottest 100, BBQ up a storm, and play in the sunshine. It’s always such a joy filled day of family fun, lots of laughs, awesome music, and divine food.

What are you doing this Australia Day?
This year we hosting our annual Triple J Hottest 100 Pool party from our new home and we are so excited! We’ll be listening to the radio, drinking margaritas and hanging out by the pool with our friends and neighbours. From the top of our quiet street there is a little reserve with an amazing view of the city. This will be our own private spot to watch the sky show fireworks over the Swan River.

What do you think sets an Aussie blogger apart?
A relaxed, laid back vibe and zest for life. Being able to just ride your own creative wave without worrying about what anyone else is doing.

What do you think is your most Aussie outfit?
A pair of perfectly worn in denim cut offs, tank and thongs. I can pretty much live in this all summer long.

Leana is our little ray of sunshine. A Melbourne blogger who definitely, according to us, belongs right here in Byron Bay.

What are you doing this Australia Day?
This Australia day it will just be a mix of things. At home with the family just enjoying the beautiful weather and relaxing by the pool, I will also still being doing some work as being a busy time of the year for me I need to keep on top of things, and possibly also just hanging out with some friends. It wont be too special but also making sure I allow some relaxation time to happen in and among other things too.

What do you think sets an Aussie blogger apart?
I think being an Australian blogger gives us a nice easygoing, free spirited kind of nature. Overall I feel Australian bloggers slide quite nicely into trends and adapt them to suit our lifestyle, adding our own touch to them. I have always been told from people who aren’t Australian that we are generally very friendly and easy going, and I think that comes across in our photos and blogs. We all have our own styles and aesthetics but when it comes down to it we have a really lovely essence to us all, which I believe sets us apart. Also having access to some beautiful landscapes, scenery and just breath taking places to visit, it also allows us incredible things to write about, photograph, explore and share with many others around the world.

What do you think is your most Aussie outfit?
I don’t think I have a most Australian outfit. I think simply just being me and appreciating my heritage, setting my own trends and staying true to who I am, embracing all my curves and flaws in all I do is being a proud Australian. It is just wearing what I feel good in and love with confidence and a smile that is my most Australian look; it isn’t specific to an outfit but more a feeling and energy I give off :-)

Elle Ferguson, They All Hate Us (wearing the Isla Bonita Romper)

Elle Ferguson, really the epitome of Aussie-girl Style – she is so summer! Not only is she a blogger (and legend) her blog with her bestie Tash also has their fave wardrobe edit you can shop from, which (happily for us) includes Spell from time to time!

What do you usually do on Australia Day?
Always attempt to have a swim or get to the beach if weather permits… But it’s always family time.

Favourite place to travel in Australia?
Well I’d have to say Byron bay… There is something quite magical about the Bay… The people are the most loving humans in the world, you can always find something amazing to eat, you can do some serious shopping and the beaches are paradise so Byron it is!

What do you think sets an Aussie blogger apart?
The ability to be effortlessly cool…

What do you think is your most Aussie outfit?
Ha ha ha I think you know what I’m going to say… Denim shorts!!!

So, we kind of got addicted to Fashion Bloggers TV and developed a girl crush on Zanita for her wackiness, talent and really cool style. We were so stoked when she wore our Gypsiana maxi on the show in Dubai!

What do you usually do on Australia Day?
The best ones I’ve spent have been just BBQ’s with friends. Give me a few glasses of wine some salad and steak, I’m happy!

Have you spent it abroad? If so, what did you do for it?
I have spent it abroad and to be honest, I haven’t done anything because I’m generally hanging with Swedes or Americans! I’ll usually just force them all to listen to the Triple J hottest 100.

Favourite place to travel in Australia?
My hometown of Esperance. I’ve no hesitation in saying that the beaches are the most ruggedly beautiful in the world. It’s a wild paradise.

What do you think sets an Aussie blogger apart?
The Aussie blogger posse strive to an industry standard, rather than the typical blogger aesthetic. We’re creative directors and collaborators. The other Aussie bloggers I know make me proud to be part of that group.

Jasmin Howell, Friend in Fashion (wearing the Isla Bonita romper  & Wild Belle gown

The little stylish faerie from Melbourne, Jas is one of those chameleons that can be street-style-chic  with Chanel, heels or booties  and designer one day to barefoot in a flowy dress the next, and we love it! We love following her travel adventures and Melbourne fun!

What are you doing this Australia Day?
I hope to be at the tennis during the day, and then back home to enjoy the evening fireworks over Melbourne.

Favourite place to travel in Australia?
Any where there is good food or great beaches! We’re pretty spoilt in Australia with both, so I love Melbourne city for art, culture and amazing food, and I love to road trip along the east coast of Aus, to find incredible beaches. Hyams beach is one of my absolute favourites. Byron Bay, and Noosa are also great vibey spots.

What do you think sets an Aussie blogger apart?
I think Australian bloggers evoke a great sense of fun, and adventure, which is very much a part of Aussie culture. I think our style is quite distinctive as well – casual and relaxed.

What do you think is your most Aussie outfit?
Anything embroidered or crochet, playsuits feature regularly, and extra points if I’m bare foot, beach side.

Nadia Fairfax, Fairfax Journal (wearing our Coco Romper)

We are yet to meet this talented, pint-sized gymnast in the flesh – though we fell in love with her on Season 2 of Fashion Bloggers TV, but we know a few things for sure: 1. We’d love to have a drink with her and 2. She is saying what we are all thinking!

What do you usually do on Australia Day?
Oh gosh, it changes every year. As a grow older I seem to do long lunches with my closest girlfriends.

Have you spent it abroad? If so, what did you do for it?I
I have! I have spent Australia day in LA and also in NYC before. There is a great Australian community in both of these cities, so everyone gets together.. I think some of our American friends have become to love celebrating Australia day more then us, haha. We Aussies know how to party!

What do you think sets an Aussie blogger apart?
We are surrounded by some of the most talented designers, so the “style” bar is already set quite high. Blogging is about expressing your personal style and we are not afraid to be different and try something new.

What do you think is your most Aussie outfit?
Add RM Williams boots and an Akubra hat to a cute printed playsuit or dress!

Geneva Vanderzeil, A Pair and A Spare ( wearing the Santorini Blouse in the Maldives & Rambling Rose Mini at Falls Festival)
We love it in Summer because Geneva always meanders towards Byron after working hard all year around the world (mainly from her Hong Kong base these days). Geneva is the queen of DIY ( stuff that you can actually do!) and we recently teamed up with her for a #spellspread post!

What do you usually do on Australia Day?
No matter where I am in the world I always take some time to listen to the hottest 100!

Favourite place to travel in Australia?
I love every part of Australia, but next on my list is Tasmania, it looks like such an amazing mix of scenery, nature and… food! All the things I love.

What do you think sets an Aussie blogger apart?
I think there’s a fresh and unique perspective down under, and all of the bloggers have really different personalities which shows in their style.

What do you think is your most Aussie outfit?
My flag bikini! Jokes. Probably something blue and white which matches my love for Aussie beaches.
